Step one of research is to come up with an awesome idea of what to study and how to study it. Some ways you can start organizing your thoughts:
- Read. Spend time reading articles and deeply interrogating them. Besides the Journal Table of Contents disseminated regularly by core lab members, you can set up an RSS feed to receive articles from certain journals right in your inbox. Mendeley can help you organize all your pdfs.
- Talk. In addition to meeting with Prof. Meyer, informal conversations with other lab members can help spark or refine an idea.
- Utilize lab meetings. Take notes, especially on articles informing others' work. Before starting any major project, it's a good idea to present about it in lab meeting so everyone can check it out and help refine it.
